All Cathleen wanted was to be with her family. For six years, the Great Pyrenees mix had loved her life, but then her family moved and could not take her with them. Her family gave her to some friends they knew who lived twenty miles away. Cathleen was sad and confused, and so she set out to find her family --- twice.
Two times Cathleen escaped from her new home and traveled the twenty miles back to her former family. As much as they loved her, they could not keep her, and her new family gave up trying to contain her on their property. That's when the Seminole Humane Society of Oklahoma stepped in to help Cathleen find a new home that she would love even more than her last one.
"Cathleen is precious and her original family loved her very much," the Seminole Humane Society/Seminole Animal Shelter announced on Facebook. "Her heart wants to be with them but they cannot keep her. We have now stepped in to assist Cathleen on her next journey."
Cathleen's journey went viral, and adoptions from all over the world began pouring into the shelter. That's when Alicia Nichole Fields heard about Cathleen's story and "was just heartbroken."
Although she lived in East Texas, Fields filled out the adoption application and also invited the shelter to look at her Facebook page and the pictures of her property. In particular, Fields noted the large acreage, fenced yard, and other happy pets, including dogs and chickens. She also had references from her veterinarian.
Fields didn't think she would be picked for Cathleen, so she never told her husband about the application. To her surprise, Fields was informed that her application was selected, and thankfully, once she told her husband, he gave her his full support!
Fields drove four hours to the shelter to pick up Cathleen. "I wanted her to like us," Fields said. "I was hoping for the best and she definitely exceeded my expectations."
Cathleen now lives with Fields and enjoys playing with her three dog siblings and getting lots of love and attention from her owners. Hopefully, Cathleen will love her new home so much that she will stay put for awhile!
