Colonel Thorpe, a member of the Orange County, Florida, Sheriff's Department, was on his way into work one Monday morning when he saw a dog in distress. The dog was wandering near the busy 408 highway, confused and clearly out of his element. As car after car sped by the dog during the morning rush hour, the danger to the dog was elevated.
Fearful that the dog would be hit, Thorpe pulled his car over to the side of the road. Then, as the dog weaved in and out of traffic, Thorpe followed the dog into the path of oncoming cars to guide him to safety! Thankfully, both officer and dog made it back to the car safe and sound.
Thorpe took the mysterious dog with him to the station. The dog was wearing only a VCA bandana around his neck with a toll-free phone number on it. Thorpe called the number and found out that the dog had a family had been desperately searching for days for their pup.
The dog's name was Teddy Bear, and the seven-year-old dog had escaped from a relative's house in Orlando on Thanksgiving evening. His family had been looking for him for over four days to no avail. It wasn't until Col. Thorpe found and saved Teddy Bear that the family could be contacted about their lost four-legged companion.
Thanks to the heroic work of Col. Thorpe, Teddy Bear has been reunited with his family. Watch the video below of this heartwarming reunion, then share this story with your family and friends on Facebook.
