In this hilarious viral video, the owner of this pup returned home to a destroyed couch! Not the best thing to come home to - so he filmed himself asking his dog if he had done it, while the dog did his best to ignore the damage, and even looked guilty.
Here's the biggest surprise of all, though: he looked guilty, but dogs actually don't feel guilt the way we do.
According to Vet Street, event though the dog may be acting the way we do when we're guilty - head down, avoiding eye contact - they actually don't feel guilt. That's just the way they react when their owner is upset with them.
In other words, they don't understand what they've done wrong, they just know you're upset. So keep that in mind the next time you scold your pup for something they've already done!
But that doesn't help the guy in the video much. So how is he supposed to keep his pup from chewing up the couch when he doesn't even know he's done something wrong?
Dog Time says chewing can be a way for adult dogs to relieve boredom, or if they're stressed out, it's a way to release energy. So they suggest making sure your pup gets plenty of exercise, give them a chew toy (or two or three), and use repellents, among other things.
Even though he isn't actually feeling guilty, he sure looks like it! And it sure is cute. Be sure to share this video with your friends and family, and feel free to tell us a chewing disaster story in the comments!
